Abstract Pyrene-perylene (Py-Pery) doped 2-naphthol (2-NP) luminophors (Py-Pery/2-NP) were prepared by conventional solid state reaction method. Excitation energy transfer and electrical properties were studied by fluorimetry and cyclic voltametric (CV) analysis respectively.2-NP acts as an good light emitting matrix. The effect of the donor emission was perceived by changing the dopant and dopant concentrations; this showed that Py-Pery in 2-NP matrix exhibits green emission in the wavelength region 480–550 nm, peaking at 510 nm. Structural properties and thermal stability was studied by XRD, SEM and TGA-DSC. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels were in the range from 5.46–5.48 eV and 2.76–2.77 eV, respectively. An electrochemical band gap estimated was within the range of 2.68–2.72 eV. This study reveals that 2-NP luminophors can be used as a hole-transporting materials used in optoelectronics. Introduction The transfer of excitation energy in doped organic aggregates has been widely examined for over half century because of its central role as an organic semiconductor materials. One more reason to study the energy transfer in doped organic matrix is sensitized acceptor emissions. This methodology has been applied in numerous studies of doped molecular crystals and thin films [1–4]. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in excited states or excimers or exciplex production [5] are responsible for this type of energy transfer in doped organic matrix.
In recent years, a variety of doped organic semiconducting materials have been prepared by using different D-A (donoracceptor) materials such as tetracene doped p-terphenyl, biphenyl doped pyrene, pyrene and perylene doped fluorene, tetracene and anthracene doped biphenyl [6], anthracene doped 2-naphthol [7], tetracene and 2-naphthol doped anthracene [8],etc. There is huge demand for these types of materials. In the present work, considering the importance of D-A types of molecules and hole-transporting materials in optoelectronics, we have designed and prepared 2-NP luminophors doped with the acceptor molecules viz., pyrene and perylene which were giving green light emission and studied their detailed optoelectronic and thermal properties.
