When I was a competitive fencer, I was always told that the person who won the tournament was the one who wanted it the most. I always figured that would be me, since I really wanted to win. Somehow, though, there was always someone else there who wanted it more than I did. One of the most valuable lessons in competitive sports is that feedback comes very rapidly, at least to those who have the sense to understand it.
