Abnormal behavior: case report A 16-year-old girl developed abnormal behaviour during treatment with oseltamivir for influenza-A and H1N1. The girl presented to the emergency department with headache, fever, photophobia, sore throat, nasal congestion, neck stiffness and nausea. She started receiving empirical therapy with ceftriaxone, vancomycin and paracetamol [acetaminophen]. Following the therapy, fever and chills resolved, but headache persisted. Thereafter, the influenza PCR test was performed which showed a positive result for influenza-A and H1N1. Hence, antibacterials treatments were discontinued. At the same time, she started receiving oral oseltamivir [dosage not stated]. After 2 days of hospitalisation, she exhibited abnormal behaviour like fearful without any reason over getting out of bed, complaining in a shouting way during explaining her neck tenderness and headache and abnormal frightened of being left alone. Additionally, she was tense and her agitation deteriorated at night. The girl was treated with benzodiazepines. On hospital day 4, her treatment with oseltamivir was discontinued. Thereafter, she was discharged on clonazepam and paracetamol. After 48 hours from the discharged, her mood and behaviour were back to normal. Fares R, et al.
