Altered mental status: case report A 62-year-old woman developed altered mental status while receiving treatment with oxycodone for neuropathic pain. The woman, who had undergone dry needling procedure, suddenly developed neuropathic pain after needling therapy in and around the spine. Subsequently, she started receiving treatment with oxycodone [dosage and route not stated] along with cyclobenzaprine and diazepam. However, her pain continued, and required increased dosing of the medications. After 3 days, she was found by her daughter with altered mental status and was brought to the emergency department by ambulance. While in transport, she was administered with naloxone for presumed opioid toxicity in the form of altered mental status associated with oxycodone [time to reaction onset not clearly stated]. Subsequently, her mental status normalised. It was reported that she developed epidural hematoma associated with dry needling. Berrigan WA, et al.
