Preface and Acknowledgements
The idea of writing this contribution developed when reading the keynote presentations in the Abstract Book of the 16th International Meiofauna Conference 2016. Especially those by our colleagues Richard M. Warwick, Michaela Schratzberger and Jeroen Ingels elicited and confirmed many thoughts and suggestions I had reflected on and discussed before. Thankful for these stimuli, I felt encouraged to write them down in a structured form. The text has been partly looked over by my colleagues Jon Norenburg (Washington DC, USA), Richard M. Warwick (Plymouth, England) and Walter Traunspurger (Bielefeld, Germany), and their support is much acknowledged. I also thank all those colleagues who sent me reprints or sometimes even yet unpublished manuscripts. Finally, the continuous, ‘author-friendly’ and non-bureaucratic support of the editors of SpringerBriefs in Biology within the Springer Nature Group (Heidelberg) is thankfully acknowledged.
