The subject of agriculture lies within a power-relations struggle that has not been sufficiently addressed by political ecology and environmental thinking. It is true that there are very good case studies from this field of knowledge and excellent papers that touch on the subject of power. Yet, to date, few papers have tried to bring together the theoretical tools that political ecology has borrowed from other disciplines, to unravel and clarify the origins of the discourses, practices, and cultural assumptions, in an effort to explain the conflicts and antagonisms in agriculture. For its part, the field of agroecology has most often addressed the dimension of power in agriculture. However, agroecology is often seen as an alternative route for rural development and sustainable development.
