Abstract The coastline can be used as the demarcation line between the ocean and the continent, which plays a crucial role in the development of marine economy. The purpose of this paper is to achieve stitching of coastline images from different areas automatically and create panoramic coast images. To be specific, we proposed a multi-resolution image fusion method which is based on the optimal seam-line method to solve the huge shadow and unnatural image connection problems which caused by the process of the fused region of coastline splicing. In this paper, we adopted the multi-resolution wavelet fusion method by using multi-resolution wavelet fusion method in searching the optimal seam-line. At the same time, it is found in the contrast experiment that the image fused by the proposed algorithm has no obvious shadow situation and can be better fused in vision. Keywords Coastline . Introduction Coastline (Liu et al. 2018) is one of the most important landform elements in topographic maps. Panoramic coastal image can provide data basics for the key information of coastline, which includes coastal changing, coastline extraction, offshore morphology, beach environment and condition, etc. The most primitive method of surveying and mapping the coastline is the field measurement method (Zhang et al. 2013). With the developing of space technology, geographic information system and remote sensing technology (Liu and Zhang 2018) could be used to help researchers locate the position of the coastline accurately and monitor dynamic changes of coastline. Because of the high technical requirements and expensive price, the wide angle lens and specialized equipment are general used for collecting pictures. However, the ultra-wide viewing angle Communicated by: H. Babaie * Hongtao Li [email protected] Bo Wang [email protected] 1

is prone to lose the resolution of objects in the scene, which causes the blurry problems of coastline image and inaccurately in locating. Moreover, the edge of the wide-angle lens will also produce some distortions (Zhang et al. 2011). For ensuring high resolution, it is necessary to narrow the scope of shooting, get a part of the whole area, and then generate panoramic images from the image set with overlapping field of view by image mosaic technology, so as to show the more details effectively. Image mosaic (Lin et al. 2015) is a kind of technology which combines several overlapped images into a large seamless high-resolution image, including image acquisition, image registration and image fusion. Among them, image registration and fusion are treated as the key steps in image mosaic process,
