Foreword: Business and Society Approached Inclusively, Globally, and Historically
The study of the modern corporation in its social, political, economic, and global context is one of the most important scholarly and policy issues of our age. In this introductory essay, I offer a personal and therefore partial view of how to approach research in this avowedly interdisciplinary field of study. There are three essential points to be made. Firstly, the need to frame any productive research agenda in inclusive terms. Here my preference is to express this research agenda in the inclusive phrase “business and society relationships” rather than the narrower domain of corporate social responsibility (CSR) or the responsible firm.
