Retina Definition The neural layer which coats the inside of the back of the human eye. The retina contains light sensitive cells so is responsible for capturing images in the same manner as camera film.
Retrospective Costing Definition When the cost of an intervention has been done separately and typically after the completion of a clinical trial.
Revascularization Retinopathy Definition Retinopathy is a general term that refers to some form of non-inflammatory damage to the retina of the eye and often a problem with the blood supply is the cause for this condition. Frequently, retinopathy is associated with systemic disease e.g. diabetes mellitus (diabetic retinopathy), arterial hypertension (hypertensive retinopathy) or direct exposure to sunlight (solar retinopathy).
Definition Revascularization refers to all surgical procedures (open or endovascular) aimed to restore an adequate blood flow in the vascular bed downstream to an arterial stenosis (generally severe > 70%) or occlusion. The haemodynamic result depends on optimal procedure as well as on the resistance in the vascular bed below the repair.
Reverse Causation Synonyms Confounding
Retrocochlear and Central Hearing Losses Definition These losses are caused by congenital or acquired damage or disease (e.g., tumors) to the auditory nerve and its pathways and reception and processing areas in the cortex. These losses are usually managed medically/ surgically; traditional hearing aids are often not successful, especially after surgical removal of tumors.
Definition In the context of obesity and mortality studies, Reverse Causation refers to factors that appear to simultaneously increase mortality rate and decrease body weight. Such factors include smoking, serious illnesses and advanced aging. Reverse causation has been hypothesized to account for the elevated mortality rate observed at the low end of the BMI continuum. Reverse Causation is a special case of confounding in obesity and mortality studies.

joints and the brain. It mainly affects children and young adults. It is brought on by a reaction to a throat infection from a particular bacterium.
Rheumatic Heart Disease Definition This is a chronic disease of heart valves that have been damaged by previous attacks of rheumatic fever.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Definition RA is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease mainly affecting the joints. This disease results in functional disability, joint deformity, and premature death.
Rhinosinusitus Definition Rhinosinusitus is a medical condition in which patients experience inflammation in the nasal passage.
Rhythm Control Definition In the artrial fibrillation (AF) setting, this term refers to medical strategies aimed at restoring sinus rhythm, the heart’s natural rhythm, and preventing recurrence of AF. Traditionally this was done with antiarrhythmic drugs, but
