I must disclose right from the start that I had a personal experience using the present book and so I am very glad to have it published in an updated edition in the series that I am editing. It was in 2001 when I started working as a secondary science teacher. I had no training in the history and philosophy of science, but for some reason I always felt that these were important and relevant for science teaching. As soon as I started teaching, besides the numerous difficulties that a new teacher has to deal with, I also faced the problem of making my teaching of biology interesting and relevant to my students’ lives. Not having the resources that I needed, I started looking for a book which I might use for this purpose. It will not be a surprise for you then to read that the present book was the one I chose, and the one from which I benefited enormously for my teaching.
