Acute infective pyelonephritis and renal scar: 2 case reports In a prospective study of 34 patients performed between November 2015 and September 2016, two patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed acute infective pyelonephritis or renal scar following sclerotherapy with silver nitrate for chyluria. The patients, who had chyluria, underwent endoscopic renal pelvic instillation sclerotherapy (RPIS) using 1% silver nitrate [route not stated]. Both the patients received 9 doses of silver nitrate. One of these two patients developed renal scar. The remaining one patient developed renal scar along with acute infective pyelonephritis (grade II) complicated by elevated serum creatinine levels and transient sepsis. The renal scars were noted on dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scan performed post-instillation [time to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. Author comment: "Both patients had received 9-doses of 1% silver nitrate as sclerotherapy. One had developed acute pyelonephritis following RPIS". "[P]atient probably developed scar due to the sclerosant [silver nitrate] itself." Purkait B, et al. Does endoscopic sclerotherapy in filarial chyluria affect renal function and morphology?
