Preface Social innovation attends the main social problems faced by humanity in a more efficient way. This type of innovation takes advantage of current needs, exploiting the diversity of resources that a society has and building capacities oriented toward the empowerment of the excluded population and the systemic change of the social, economic, and institutional structures that create these problems. The promise of social change by social innovation leads to the position of the concept within the agenda of international organizations, governments, companies, nonprofit organizations, and academia, who through various initiatives promote their development from a practical perspective as theoretical. As a consequence of this impulse is the proliferation of approximations in its theoretical understanding, as well as the generation of initiatives of all sectors of society to encourage the creation of a greater number of social innovations, especially in contexts characterized by exclusion,
