Abstract The object of research of the present work is the tailing dump, located on the territory of north of Siberia. Based on the operating conditions of alluvial storage in permafrost, it should be noted that the increase in the annual capacity of the layer may not provide its complete consolidation during short spring-summer period before freezing. Thus, it will reduce the stability of the structure. In order to optimize the inwash technology of tailing dam, it is necessary to determine the time of tail’s consolidation. On the basis of laboratory tests, the approach to coefficient definition of filtrational and secondary consolidation of tails during alluvium depending on a physical condition, density, water saturation degree, and the mathematical model to calculate the time of their consolidation has been developed. The results obtained from researches can be successfully used as a basis for constructing consolidation models of required layer tails. Keywords Tailing dam . Consolidation . Network planning . Introduction In northern regions of Russia—the areas of large mining and metallurgical enterprises—dozens of million cubic meters of different deposits have been accumulating for a long time in the tailing dumps. The tailing dams inwashing processes are produced in spring and summer, when the average daily temperature is above − 5 °C (Lolaev and Butygin 2005). Based on the operating conditions of alluvial storage in permafrost, it should be noted that the increase in the annual capacity of alluvial layer may not provide its complete consolidation process during short spring-summer period (3–4 months) before freezing in winter. In this case, the technological scheme, the parameters of the alluvium, individual sequence of the inwash, etc., may This paper was selected from the 2nd Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG), Tunisia 2019 Responsible Editor: Zeynal Abiddin Erguler * Alan Lolaev [email protected] 1

affect the stability of individual sections and the structure as a whole. The technological scheme of construction and operation, a whole complex of factors should be taken into account, including climatic conditions. The influence of climatic conditions on the tailing dam technological scheme forming process is of particular importance for objects located in the cryolithozone. Object of research of the present work is the tailing dump, located on the territory of Norilsk industrial region (North of Siberia). The exploitation of the disposal area has begun since 1983 with the purpose of warehousing of tails from concentrating mill and organization of system of turnaround water supply
