A d e t a i l e d s t u d y of t e m p e r e m b r i t t l e m e n t by i s o t h e r m a l aging b e t w e e n 450 and 590~ and by s t e p c o o l i n g h a s been m a d e in an F e , 3.5 p e t Ni, 1.7 p e t C r , 0.008 p c t C a l l o y d o p e d with 700 p p m Sb. M a t r i x h a r d n e s s was e l i m i n a t e d a s a v a r i a b l e by c o m p a r i n g e m b r i t t l e m e n t in the fully r e c r y s t a l l i z e d s t a r t i n g condition with t h a t in the quenched and t e m p e r e d condition. E m b r i t t l e m e n t in the r e c r y s t a l l i z e d condition was a n a l o g o u s to that in the quenched and t e m p e r e d condition, e x c e p t t h a t t h e k i n e t i c s w e r e s l o w e r in t h e f o r m e r . AES m e a s u r e m e n t s showed that the t r a n s i t i o n t e m p e r a t u r e was d i r e c t l y p r o p o r t i o n a l to the i n t e r g r a n u l a r Sb c o n c e n t r a t i o n , which v a r i e d with the aging t i m e and t e m p e r a t u r e . The mm,~imum r a t e of e m b r i t t l e m e n t o c c u r r e d at o r above 520~ The e m b r i t t l e m e n t a p p e a r e d to be s t a b l e , and it a p p e a r e d that a s t e a d y s t a t e was a p p r o a c h e d at aging t e m p e r a t u r e s z:560~ in t i m e s -
