PROCEDURE

The experimental procedure for the phase diagram of this system is essentially the same as described for the Au-Pb-Sn system. I The chief source of information for determining the phase diagram was differential thermal analysis (DTA) with optical metallography, X-ray diffraction and electron microprobe analyses used for verification. As an indication of the sensitivity of the DTA apparatus used, a persistent, reproducible, small endotherm at 359~ on cooling was noticed, an apparent thermodynamic anomaly.
