When a small group of people from differing professional backgrounds and disciplines met in 1987 with the common aim of developing a health-related quality of life instrument that would suit their requirements it is doubtful if any of the participants expected that the resulting instrument would have the global reach it has today. This book shows the detailed multi-disciplinary work that went into the original construction of the EuroQol, later to be termed EQ-5D, and to subsequent developments – many language versions, a child/youth version EQ-5D-Y, and the 5-level version EQ-5D-5L. In all the early documentation there is no explicit indication of who ‘invented’ the ‘EuroQol’ term – essentially it just ‘emerged’ by the time of the 5th Meeting in July 1989!
