THE KINETICS OF EXCITONIC LUMINESCENCE IN MIXED SILVER HALIDES E.KOTOMIN, D.MILLERS, L.GRIGORJEVA AND R.EGLITIS Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, 8 Kengaraga Str., LV-1063 Riga, Latvia ABSTRACT Two kinds of luminescence (excitonic luminescence and excitonic molecule luminescence) were investigated for solid solutions AgBrl-xClx after pulsed electron beam and N2 laser irradiation. Careful theoretical treatment of a set of experimental excitonic luminescence kinetics is presented. It is shown that the effective activation energy of Ag~i migration is a linear function of the composition x. The narrow peak of the excitonic molecule luminescence shifts from 2.66ev in pure AgBr towards higher energies as x increases. INTRODUCTION In the last decade mixed silver halides like AgBrl-xClx have found new applications for IR optical devices and fibers. Typical optical losses of AgBr0.5C10.5 polycrystalline fibers are small (•
