Preface

Conversations about preparing a handbook of media policy research methods started a while ago, to put it mildly. During a panel session celebrating the publication of Trends in Communication Policy Research: New Theories, Methods and Subjects at the ECREA 2012 conference in Istanbul, Sonia Livingstone emphasized the importance of media and communication p ­ olicy research paying more attention to methods. At that point, Hilde Van den Bulck and Manuel Puppis had been talking about a book on media policy methods for several years, but were reluctant to ‘walk the walk’ of editing such a volume.
