The Asia Research Institute (ARI) is a university-level research institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Its mission is to provide a world-class focus and resource for research on Asia. The three themes of the ARI-Springer Asia Series – Cities, Religion, and Migration – correspond to three of ARI’s research clusters and primary research emphases. ARI’s logo depicts rice grains in star-like formation. Rice has been the main staple food for many of Asia’s peoples since the 15th century.
