The Teaching Design of Digital Signal Processing Based on MATLAB and FPGA Xiaoyan Tian, Lei Chen and Jiao Pang

Abstract Due to the wide-ranging contents, abstract concepts and complicated designs involved in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), this paper proposed a technology scheme that incorporated MATLAB and FPGA into the theoretical and practical teaching. The scheme developed a multimedia teaching system based on VC++ and MATLAB which gives full play to the advantages of visual graphics, consequently achieved the purpose of stimulating interests of learning, reducing the difficulty of understanding and improving the quality of teaching. In order to improve the ability of engineering application, also designed a comprehensive experiment based on the combination of MATLAB DSP Builder and FPGA instead of the previous experiment methods using the MATLAB tools for the single simulation. The results show that this scheme achieved anticipated goals. Keywords Digital signal processing gate array

254.1 Introduction In the past half-century, with the development of computer and microelectronics technology, the strong theoretical and engineering discipline DSP has been a leap in the development. Its status and influence are becoming more and more important, turning into the theoretical and technical basis of communications, radar, sonar, electro-acoustic, TV, monitoring and control, biomedical engineering and many other subjects. However, on account of the DSP features of involving many contents, abstract concepts and complicated designs, there is a phenomenon that many students are afraid to learn and feel weariness for this course, even they X. cannot understand it. At the same time, DSP algorithm implementation is based on numerical calculation of the computer, manual calculation is much more complicated, even impossible to achieve. As a result, assignments are generally not easy for teachers which leads to certain restrictions for students’ after-school practice and affects the teaching effect at a large extent. In the current domain of domestic and international signal processing and system design, MATLAB is one of the most popular engineering simulation software. MATLAB teaching demonstration covers all the DSP teaching contents, such as signal and system Fourier analysis, convolution calculation, filter design, signal filter etc. Using the MATLAB graphical visualization advantages and graphics to explain the theory, we turn the abstract theory into the close combination of theory and application, which can greatly improve the teaching effect. In the meantime, as a re
