I am delighted to write the foreword for the first edition of the book Laparoscopic Colon Surgery: Milestones, Education, & Best Practice. I hold high respect for the editors of this book whose diversity, knowledge, and high caliber skills, each one in their field of expertise, make an astonishing combination for producing a succinct manuscript that can showcase the milestones, education, and best practices of laparoscopic colon surgery. There are still prevailing difficulties in endorsing the laparoscopic technique in colon surgery. Although conventional laparoscopic procedures have a long history and practice, laparoscopic colon surgery does not constitute the first choice for most surgeons who would prefer open surgery despite sufficient clinical evidence showing that laparoscopic technique in colon treatment has equal clinical results as open surgery but is also a more efficient technique for the healthcare system with fewer operating hours, fewer days of hospitalization, qu
