Cutaneous vasculitis in an elderly patient: case report An 86-year-old man developed cutaneous vasculitis while receiving oral vancomycin [dosage not stated] for Clostridium difficile infection. He was admitted with purpuric rash, pain and oedema affecting his lower limbs. His symptoms had started the day after initiating vancomycin. He was diagnosed with vancomycin-induced cutaneous vasculitis. No abnormalities were detected in laboratory investigations. Vancomycin was discontinued and he received topical steroids; his rash resolved over 2 months. Author comment: "Cutaneous vasculitis is a rare side effect of vancomycin." Millette BH, et al.
