Preface

Political renaissance has improved awareness and participation of African women and women of African descent in politics. Women’s political involvements in public and private spheres have often been misunderstood, misinterpreted, misrepresented and criticized. In the same vein, the proliferation of mass media outlets including the social media has presented various political actors and their activities for scholarly scrutiny and pragmatic reformulation particularly in continental contexts for sustainable development. In pursuance of the goals of enriching the Gender Studies Program at the Institute of African Studies, my classes raise issues on topics including histories and philosophies
