William Katz Chairman, Corporate Participation Committee The Committee maintains an open and mutually beneficial line of communication between the Society and industrial research laboratories where materials research is pursued in the interdisciplinary fashion that the Society emphasizes. He is involved in research at the General Electric Company R & D Center and is co-chairing the Symposium on Applied Materials Characterization at the upcoming MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco.

The coming year sees the Society embarking upon many new publications activities, such as independent publication and distribution of its proceedings series and exploration of the feasibility of an archival journal. Peercy Chairman, Program Committee The Program Committee is responsible for consistent, high-quality programming at the Fall and Spring Meetings of the Society, activities that represent the primary service rendered to members and the research community. Paul served as co-organizer of the 1979 MRS symposium, Laser and Electron Beam Processing of Materials, as a member of the Membership Committee, and most recently as co-chairman of the highly successful 1984 MRS Fall Meeting.
