Nature and the environment represent a key and unquestionable value in terms of human existence – perhaps the value increasing in importance the more people live in the world and the more humans influence and change their environment through their activities. The world community and the European Union are becoming more and more aware of this fact, with various corresponding international activities and policy initiatives.
