Addendum to Wien Med Wochenschr 2020 https://doi.org/10.1007/s10354-020-00743-4 Following the publication of my article entitled “Mutual influences in the development of pathology and medicine in Austria and Turkey” in the Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift (WMW), I received a brief letter and a document from Dr. Ursula Rokitansky, of the Rokitansky family and author of the detailed article on Karl Rokitansky’s international contributions which was published in the same edition of the journal [1, 2]. As I had also mentioned in my article, the ruling Ottoman Sultan of that time, Sultan Abdülmecid, who was eager to unveil the level of education at Istanbul Galata Serai School of Medicine, requested the Austrian school director Dr. Spitzer from the Josephinum to select four new graduates and subject these students to an equivalency exam at the Vienna School of Medicine. The selected students prepared themselves for the exam by studying with professors from the Vienna School of Medicine in 1848. Prof. Karl Rokitansky was one of these professors. Dr. Ursula Rokitansky sent me the picture of the page with the names of Dr. Gregor Jannowiez, Dr. Stephan Aslanian, Dr. Nicolas Aprillof and Dr. Arif Musa Efendi in Karl Rokitansky’s guestbook (Fig. 1). I would like to present this valuable document as an addendum to my article [3].
