Convulsions secondary to drug intoxication: case report In a series of 3 cases, a 41-year-old man was described, who developed convulsions following amfetamine intoxication. The man received amfetamine [route and dosage not stated] for an unspecified indication. Later, he was admitted due to convulsions caused by amphetamine intoxication [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. His initial serum creatinine level was found to be elevated and the urine output was rapidly decreased with severe metabolic acidosis. At 3 days following admission, he received continuous renal replacement therapy owing to metabolic acidosis and oliguria. However, his brain function could not be recovered because of convulsions. He was then declared brain dead. His family agreed to donate his organs. Lung and liver transplantation was decided; however, the decision of using the kidney was left as he had severe acute kidney injury. Author comment: "But his brain function was not recovered due to convulsions with amphetamine intoxication." Kim YH, et al. 3 cases of pre-transplant kidney biopsy to deceased donors.
