The parabolic curves of methane release have maximums as regard to feed velocity and productivity of shearer. Methane release from broken coal is an inverse proportional function of linear hyperbolic dependence and has maximum as regard to feed velocity and productivity of shearer. The analysis of the found methane release from broken coal shows that methane release reduces as a quadratic dependence with decreasing drum rotation speed and number of picks per cutting line, and increases also as a quadratic dependence with growing thickness of coal seam and shearer web width. Modern shearers operated in Kuzbass mines possess high capacity productivity and feed velocity. For instance, shearer Eickhoff SL-900, weight 90 t, run in Yalevsky Mine has total capacity of cutting cutting and feed drives of 2140 kW. The feed velocity of the shearer reaches 48 m/min and its productivity exceeds 50 kt coal per day. In August 2018, in Yalevsky Mine longwall 5004 with a length of 400 m, in extraction of seam 3.8 m thick, the shearer reached the world record by producing 1627 kt coal. At the same time, operation of drum shearers, scrapers and crushers results in overgrinding of coal in face areas. Kostromovskaya Mine produces 69.1% of coal in the size grade of dust coal (0–6 mm) and flaxseed coal (6–13 mm). Many other mines feature the same yield of fines. As a consequence, the grade of coal lowers together with coal price, the yield of dust particles grows, and methane release from broken-down coal increases. One of the efficient approaches to decreasing methane release in longwalls is improvement of productivity of drum shearers. Lower methane release from broken-down coal at high productivity of shearer was for the first time recorded by VostNII Research Center experts in 2010 in Tagarysh, Kotinskaya and Talda Zapad-1 Mines by the air and ga
