PREFACE
When a 'love' -relationship is not loving, it is usually sadomasochistic. This has been my experience. In the third edition of Sexual Deviation (1996, edited by Ismond Rosen) Mervin Glasser reiterated: " ... it can be seen that there is always an element of deception in masochism, always an arrogant contempt and assertion of control hidden behind the humiliation and submission ... one is led to recognize that there is always an element of deception in any perversion since ... sado-masochism is so ubiquitous a feature in the perversions" (ch.12, p. 292).
