Diabetes and obesity are chronic diseases that have become major public health problems throughout the world because of their high prevalence, causal relationship with serious diseases, adverse effect on the quality of life, and considerable economic consequences. Our modern lifestyle that requires minimal daily physical activity and provides an abundance of pleasurable foods contributes to an adverse gene–environment interaction with harmful consequences.
