Betaxolol Allergic contact dermatitis: case report A 59-year-old man, who had been receiving betaxolol [Betoptic; dosage not stated] eye drops for a long time for open-angle acute glaucoma, developed acute eyelid dermatitis associated with conjunctival hyperaemia [time to reaction onset not stated]. Following betaxolol discontinuation and topical corticosteroid treatment, his condition rapidly improved. Patch tests were positive on days 2, 3 and 4 with Betoptic, timolol, betaxolol 1% aqueous and timolol 1% aqueous. Author comment: "In our case, a closed patch test . . . was sufficient to show betaxolol contact allergy." Nino M, et al. Allergic contact dermatitis due to the beta-blocker betaxolol in eyedrops, with cross-sensitivity to timolol. Contact Dermatitis 62: 319-320, No. 5, May 2010.
