Rob Allen and William Lee, along with a comprehensive cast of experts, have produced a book on the “Biological Invasions in New Zealand” that will be welcomed by the growing community of scholars around the world who are studying the spread and impacts of alien invasive species on the land and in the waters of the world. In Charles Darwin’s visit to New Zealand in 1835, during the voyage of the Beagle, he noted after passing through miles of “uninhabited useless country”, the joy of coming to an English farmhouse, with their large gardens offering “every fruit and vegetable that England produces” and gorse for fences.
