Brivaracetam Psychosis, somnolence and nausea: 3 case reports In a cross-sectional, retrospective chart review of 31 patients, who were were treated for paediatric epilepsy between 2017 and 2019, three patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed psychosis, somnolence or somnolence and nausea (1 patient each) during treatment with brivaracetam. All three patients, who had been diagnosed with paediatric epilepsy, started receiving brivaracetam [route and dosage not stated]. However, the patients subsequently developed treatment-related side effects, which manifested as psychosis (1 patient), mild somnolence (1 patient), and somnolence and nausea [1 patient; durations of treatments to reactions onsets not stated]. The patient who developed psychosis, had a history of depression and had previously experienced a similar side effect with levetiracetam. Hence, brivaracetam was discontinued for this patient, following which the psychosis resolved [not all outcomes stated]. Author comment: "Only three patients (9.6%) reported side effects. One patient developed psychosis which recovered after discontinuing treatment; this patient had depression comorbidity and had developed previously the same side effect on levetiracetam. One patient reported mild somnolence, while another presented with somnolence and nausea." Nissenkorn A, et al.
