The distribution of brucellosis in Europe and the Mediterranean area had been cartographically represented by Horst Habs as early as 1942. The case of brucellosis presented a particularly exciting task of relating the areas where the species Brucella melitensis, B. abortus and, to a lesser degree, even B. suis, occurred, to geographical and climatic data, which in turn condition certain agricultural structures and forms of animal husbandry.
