■ The US CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics has published figures from 2010, for the numbers of deaths resulting from drug poisoning across the different states. These included deaths resulting from accidental poisoning, intentional self-poisoning, assault with a drug product, and any other drug poisoning where the intent could not be determined.* Ageadjusted rates ranged from 3.4 per 100 000 residents (standard population) in North Dakota to 28.9 per 100 000 residents in West Virginia.
