Research and teaching in the history of psychology are in a challenging position. For some psychologists, history has not just significance but fundamental standing. Yet, most psychologists, it may well be, do not think history has much to say directly to them. In this collection of essays, we seek to raise the level of discussion about what the standing should be. For this purpose, we have to keep in view both the intellectual arguments about the relation of history to a science and profession of psychology and the practical, or political and administrative, conditions that currently affect the time and resources given to history of psychology.
