This edited volume is an outcome of the comparative research project ‘Everyday Maneuvers: Military–Civilian Relations in Latin America and the Middle East’ (2013–2015), funded by a generous research grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and hosted by the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI). Are John Knudsen (CMI) served as project leader for the Lebanon country-study, and with co-editor Tine Gade (NUPI) expanded the original case studies into a full book manuscript.
