Preface

The treatment of patients with and at risk for bradycardia, tachycardia, and heart failure depends on implantable and wearable cardiac electrical devices. Cardiac implantable electrical devices (CIEDs) include pacemakers, implantable cardioverter- defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices, and implantable monitors. CIEDs are managed by a variety of health-care providers including electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and associated professionals including nurses and technicians. Many management issues for patients with CIEDs are well established and straightforward. Others are more complex and challenging and have a body of published medical evidence that is ambiguous, poorly defined, or controversial. This book addresses the most important of the tough contemporary clinical issues facing clinical cardiac electrophysiology providers and is designed to support those who treat patients in real-world practice.
