Although significant progress has been made in the development and implementation of HIV prevention strategies and HIV treatments, new infections continue to occur, particularly among those who are most vulnerable due to poverty, marginalization, isolation, and violence. Too often, individuals with mental illness may fall within one or more of these groups. Researchers have identified HIV prevention strategies that are effective in preventing HIV transmission among those with mental illness.
