Foreword

Management and conservation of Horticultural Genetic Resources (HGR) are critical for meeting the present and future needs of crop improvement programmes. Management of genetic diversity of horticultural crops in a sustainable manner, it is important to conserve it as part of an overall conservation through the use of a strategy. No single technique is adequate to conserve the full range of genetic diversity of different horticultural crops. Hence, to ensure efficient germplasm conservation, a range of techniques needs to be simultaneously deployed. Priority also needs to be given to wild and weedy relatives. There also exists medium to high capability for research and use of improved methodologies for ex situ conservation. Nevertheless, strengthening of both technical and infrastructure capabilities is required in most cases. Crucial concerns associated with in situ and on-farm conservation through participatory approaches involving local commu
