PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 860, p11 - 22 Aug 2020 Cost effectiveness of SMS text reminders for vaccinations in Nigeria SMS (short message service) text reminders are effective in increasing uptake rates of childhood vaccinations in Nigeria but not for antenatal care (ANC) or family planning (FP) appointments, and may not be cost effective, according to findings of a study published in Vaccine. This trial conducted between April and June 2019 in Lagos, Nigeria, randomised patients or caregivers who had visited one of 33 primary health centres (PHCs) for childhood vaccinations (including vitamin A supplements), ANC or FP to receive SMS text reminders two days before their next appointment (intervention group; n=5922), plus 7 days after the appointment if they missed it, or to receive no text reminders (control group; 6253).
