INTRODUCTION

A S S O C I A T E D solution models have been considered in a number of recent papers. In the simplest, most frequently used case, it is assumed that there is one molecular species with a composition corresponding to that of a crystalline phase stable at low temperature. The molecular species and uncombined atoms are assumed to interact as an ideal solution, a conformal solution,~ or in a more complex way.2'3 For the purpose of analytical simplicity the interaction terms, that properly ought to depend upon the mole fractions of the species, have been written in some models
