Foreword
This volume addresses the many issues involved in planning, designing, configuring, and making effective use of digital resources to support learning and instruction. These issues have arisen in part due to new and powerful digital devices and technologies (Spector 2015; Spector et al. 2014). Both online learning and mobile learning have increased dramatically in the last ten years due to the possibilities that new digital technologies have made possible. A natural question has been repeatedly raised with regard to how to make the best use of these new technologies (Bereiter and Scarmadalia 2003; Spector and Anderson 2000). Answers have ranged from changing instructional approaches to developing specific applications for specific needs (i.e., still more technology; Moore 2013). Integrating informal learning experiences with formal experiences has also been raised as a way to make good use of some of these technologies (Sampson et al. 2014).
