Preface

The Internet pervades many of the activities of modern societies and has become the preferred medium for the delivery of information and services. The successful implementation of Internet applications, ranging from eBusiness, to eEducation or to eGovernment, is a multi-faceted problem, involving technological, managerial, economic, and legal issues. The MCETECH Conference on e-Technologies has become a well-recognized forum bringing together researchers, decision makers, and practitioners interested in exploring the many facets of Internet applications and technologies, with a focus on the technological, managerial, and organizational aspects. MCETECH 2009 focused on the theme “Innovation in an Open World”, covering topics such as inter-organizational processes, service-oriented architectures, security and trust, middleware infrastructures, open source and open environments and applications including eGovernement, eEducation, and eHealth. The fourth edition of the International MCETECH Conference on eTechnologies was held in Ottawa, Canada, May 4–6 2009. There were 42 contributions submitted to MCETECH 2009, 36 for the research track and 6 for the industrial track. All papers underwent a thorough refereeing process, where each submission was sent to at least three Program Committee members for review. The papers were judged based on relevance, originality, soundness, and presentation.
