Preface

This book is concerned with the fundamentals of the corrosion of metallic materials and electrochemistry in order to better understand the phenomena of corrosion. Corrosion is related to both the environment and a material’s properties—induced by electrochemical reactions at the interface between metallic materials and the environment, in aqueous and gaseous phases. In order to understand the phenomena of corrosion, knowledge of electrochemistry is therefore required. Appropriate electrochemical experiments must be performed to investigate the damage caused by corrosion. Corrosion scientists therefore need to possess knowledge of both electrochemistry and experimental techniques. In
