The cast factor variation as function of seam occurrence and explosion block parameters is found. Potential improvement of cast blasting to displace overburden to mined-out pit area is described. The ways of enhancing efficiency of direct dumping in gently dipping coal extraction by combination of truck-andshovel system with direct dumping in Kuzbass are identified. Open pit mining practice commonly uses technology with direct dumping in excavation of horizontal and gently dipping seams of solid minerals, with rehandling of overburden to mined-out pit by draglines. The operational practices of open pit mines in the Kuznetsk Coal Basin show that this technology ensures the best performance: stable routine of work and high productivity of stripping, low cost of overburden removal, extractability of of rocks in complicated geotechnical conditions, etc. The labor/output ratio of the mining technology with direct dumping and the cost of stripping are 3–3.5 times and 2–2,5 times lower than the same indicators of the truck-and-shovel system, respectively [1, 2]. Mining with direct dumping maintains the best ecological properties of operations owing to the complete utilization of the manmade resource of the mined-out void in the open pit field, elimination of vehicles from the process of overburden removal and dumping and due to reduction of noxious emissions in atmosphere. The range of application of the mining system with direct dumping is mainly stripping of seams with dip angles of 12–15о (based on stability criterion of internal dumps). Earlier practiced to the highest degree, actually this system enjoys no more than 9–10% in the total scope of stripping owing to favorable geological conditions of present mining operations and due to confined performance of operating draglines. In the meanwhile, the capabilities of the mining technology with direct dumping are far from being exhausted. This study addresses cast blasting approach as a constituent of the mining technology with direct dumping of overburden in mined-out void of the pit on lower horizons of gently dipping coal seams in surface mines in Kuzbass.
