Erectile dysfunction is defined as the persistent inability to attain and/or maintain erection sufficient for a satisfactory sexual intercourse. Erectile dysfunction is frequently encountered in the general population, and its frequency increases with age. Erectile dysfunction exerts a major impact on patients’ and their sexual partners’ quality of life and significantly affects self-confidence and self-esteem with substantial psychological consequences.
