In the Surgeon’s General Report on Youth Violence in 2000, we put forth the science that showed that by improving parenting, we can reduce violence in communities. Certainly the importance of quality parenting cannot be overstated. Some would argue that parenting should be a required course for high school graduation since it is the most important job that most of us will ever have. This book takes on the very vital and complex issue of the role of parenting in reducing risky behaviors that increase the spread of HIV/AIDS, and how this role may vary with race and culture.
