Pre f ace
The Colloquium "Global Differential Geometry and Global Analysis 1984" was held June 10 - 14, 1984 at the Fachbereich Mathematik der Technischen Universitat Berlin. One hundred differential geometers and analysts from Europe and Overseas joined for a series of survey lectures on major recent developments and for workshops on a broad variety of topics. This volume reflects the structure of the conference and includes both, survey articles and research papers. Most of the contributions, however, contain more material, especially more details of proofs, than presented at the conference. The colloquium was supported by: Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, Berliner Mathematische Gesellschaft, Gesellschaft der Freunde der TU Berlin, Technische Universitat Berlin. To all of them we express our sincere thanks. We also thank Bernd Wegner for his valuable help with the preparation of this volume, and the Springer-Verlag for the opportunity to publish it as a Lecture Note. The editors.
