Not long ago, “management” of healthcare seemed pretty much to begin and end with hospital administration. In the last four decades, the situation has changed dramatically and for three main reasons. First, healthcare costs that rise steadily as a share of stagnant national economies call attention to who is running the show and to the importance of getting “provider dominance” and “professional sovereignty” under control in order to achieve better value for money.
